Equipment Donation

Hi HFC/ASC Community,

We are writing to ask for donations for INTI Soccer Academy, an organization for inner city youth in Manchester. One of our own HFC/ASC coaches, Jaime Pendleton, is very involved with INTI, and l ast year as part of a school project we were able to collect a lot of equipment that went to great use! If you have any of the following, please consider donating to this awesome cause.

We will have a bucket marked "INTI DONATIONS" on our front porch at 4 Parker Farm Lane Amherst , or if you email amycape@yahoo.com we will come and pick up any donations.

Cleats (especially sizes 5-8)
Shin Guards
Soccer clothing (shorts, jerseys, socks)
Soccer Balls

Thanks again!

HFC EDP Travel - End of Season Survey

Team:

Thank you again for a great season.  I hope everyone enjoyed the end of season party. I also want to thank everyone who made it out to the tryouts despite the poor weather. We are already looking forward to a great season in the Fall.

In order to continue to improve the program, I would like to ask you to complete a quick survey.  There are just a few questions and you can finish it in just a few minutes.  It is very important to get feedback from everyone who is involved in the program for a true picture of all aspects of the program.

I want to thank you for your feedback.

HFC EDPT - Parents Meeting, Friday 7:00pm (During the End of Season Party)

Parents,

We are coming to the end of the Spring season with just 1 game left for each of the teams this weekend.  This Friday at the End of Season club party will be last time we will be together as a group.  I would like to ask everybody to give me 15 minutes for a parents meeting to wrap up a great season.

All the coaches have really enjoyed working with your players and I hope the players have had a great time as well.  If you could plan on being available around 7pm, I have a few items to share with you and we can all get back to enjoying the party.  Thanks.

HFC EDPT - End of Season Party - Friday 6-8pm

Team:

We will not be having practice this Friday because we will be holding the End of Season Party!  The party will run from 6-8pm on Upper Wilkins field.  The club provides some of the food and asks each age group to bring something.  I believe we are responsible for desserts.

Please plan on attending.  It is a great time for the players to have some fun unstructured time together and for parents to relax and not worry about what's for dinner.  You are welcome to bring the entire family, the more the merrier.

See you at practice on Wednesday and at the party on Friday!

o   *****You may park in Lot 6 for the games on the field as well as the tailgate (tailgating does not officially start until 1:30PM) and the Revolution game, so you will not need to move your car at all during the day.

o   It is about a 10 minute walk from Lot 6 to the check in area.

·         Where to check in/get information:  When you arrive in Lot 6, there will be an NHSA tent set up in the corner of Lot 6A closest to the stadium.  They will be able to guide you to the check-in for the games and answer any questions.

o   Check in for the games will be at the NRG Plaza entrance (marked on map, under the walking bridge on the concourse you will see when you get there).  There will be 2 check-in tables set up where teams/spectators will show their tickets, hand in their waiver, and players/coaches will get a wristband to gain access to the field.  ***ONLY PLAYERS AND COACHES WILL BE ALLOWED OUT ONTO THE FIELD****

o   Once your game is over, please make an effort to leave the stadium field quickly so the next games may begin on time.

o   During the 40th minute, every organization that has at least one team participating will have their organization's name on the Video Boards.

o   The best place to get autographs after the game will be Autograph Alley.  This is located right where you will be checking in for your games on the field (Patriot Place Plaza, under the bridge).  5 or so players will sign autographs immediately following the game for 20 minutes (weather permitting)

HFC EDPT - Memorial Day Tournament REPORT

Team:

I would like to thank everyone for a great tournament. I was able watch all or part of almost all the games.  I was very happy with the performance of our teams and players.  When I think back 7 weeks to the start of the season I am proud of the difference in skill demonstrated by the players and the play of the teams, but what really stood out for me was how much our players enjoyed playing and playing with each other.   With that love of the game as motivation I know they will continue to improve this season and the next.

I look forward to finishing off the last two weeks of the season. We still have some great soccer to go.

I know there were some great pictures taken this weekend. If people would like to share them with me, I will post them on the team webpage so everyone can enjoy them.  Thanks.

HFC EDPT - Tournament First Day

Team:

Thanks to everyone for braving the weather and to all the players for putting in some great performances today.  I look forward to watching more games tomorrow.

WET CLEATS
If you have wet cleats from running in the wet grass today, the best way to dry them out quickly is to stuff them with crumbled newspaper.  Let sit for an hour or two then replace the newspaper.  Continue until the newspaper is dry when you remove it.  Make sure to push it all the way into the toes on the cleat.

Tomorrow looks to be a little dryer and a little warmer. See you in the morning.

HFC EDPT - Night at the Revolution TICKETS

Team:

I know we are all thinking about the tournament this weekend but next week on Sunday, June 2 we will have the Night at the Revolution event.  For everyone who ordered tickets, I have the tickets and will distribute them after practice on Friday or your team manager will have them during the tournament and will distribute them then.

If for some reason you did not order tickets and have decided you would like to go to the event, you can still order the discounted tickets ($25/each).  Even if you have ordered tickets, friends or family who would like to come can order tickets and sit with you as there is General Admission seating for this event.

Night at the Revolution Tickets - OFFER CODE: REVOLUTION
http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/nhsa

If your player would like to participate, it is not too late.  Make sure you order a ticket for everyone who would like to watch and for your player, then let me know so I can put them on the event team roster.  We have 29 of our 42 players participating so it is going to be a great event.

HFC EDPT - Memorial Day Tournament REMINDER

Team:

We have the Memorial Day Tournament this weekend!  This is a great event and a lot of fun for the players.  We have each of our teams entered in the tournament and each team has 4 games.  That is 16 games our players will be involved in this weekend.

It is very important that we know who is going to be at every game this weekend.  I have sent our notifications for each of the 4 games for each team, but some players have not responded, or have not responded to every game.  I resent the notification today to each player who has not responded.  If you receive a notification please update your players status asap.  We have one team who only has 5 players who have accepted for some games.  The coaches can get players if needed, but we need to do it by Friday afternoon.  Once we check in on Friday evening, we are not allowed to change the roster for a team.  That is why it is important to respond and if you accept a game to be there so the team has enough players to compete.  Thanks for you help.

HYDRATION
I would like to take a little time on proper preparation and hydration during games, even though it looks like we are going to have a cool weekend.  Sports science has found that proper hydration is very important to athletic performance.  To get the peak performance, and avoid injury or heat related problems, from an athlete proper hydration is critical.

Good Fluids
  • Water is always good.
  • Sports drinks are good especially for players who do not like to drink water, but most have too much sugar. mix 1/2 with water for best results.
Bad Fluids
  • Avoid milk or any dairy based products (shakes, etc).
  • Energy drinks have way too much caffeine, sugar and other stimulates. When drunk is quantity these can cause medical issues especially for youth athletes.
  • Fruit/Vegetable juices in general have too much sugar/carbohydrates for use during an activity.  Can be used before or after activity in moderation.
Best Practices
  1. Athletes must be hydrated before starting an activity.  They should drink 8-16 ounces of fluid 30 minutes before the start of an activity.
  2. Athletes become dehydrated very quickly during athletic activities there they should drink 2-4 ounces of fluid every 15 minutes during activities
  3. For recovery from athletic activity the body needs fluids (8-16 ounces) immediately (5-15 minutes) after the end of activity.
This means players should drink fluid before practice, have at least 16 ounces of fluid to drink during practice and then another drink once they are done.  Thirst is NOT a good predictor of hydration.  In general, by the time an athlete is thirsty they are already dehydrated.  This is why athletes should be in the habit if drinking before and during activity even if they do not feel thirsty.  The best way to determine if someone is hydrated is by asking 2 simple questions 1) when was the last time you peed? 2) what color was the pee?  A well hydrated athlete will have peed in the last 60 minutes and the pee would have a clear or slightly yellow color.  If your athlete has not peed in the last 60 minutes or the pee was yellow or dark yellow then they are dehydrated.

Thanks and see you all on the field.

HFC EDPT - Game times

Teams:

A quick reminder that it is very improtant for players to be at games 40 minutes before game time.  Coaches need the tiime to get players warmed up and into game mode.  When players show up just before the startof a game, the difference in the team's performance is noticeable.

Please help the players out by planning enough travel time to arrive 40 minutes before the start of a game.  Remember for away games to leave a little extra time to find the field and park.

Thank you for assistance in providing a fist class training and game environment for your player.

HFC EDP Travel - Teamer Game notification responses

Team:

You all should have received notifications for this weekends games from Teamer at this point.  We need you to respond to those notifications and let us know if your player will be attending the game this weekend or not.  Currently, only about 50% of the players have responded.  This is very important so we know if we will have enough players to field a team.  Being the start of school vacation week, we know that many families may be leaving on vacations.  So please respond to indicate if you are attending or not.  If you have already responded then thank you for you prompt attention to this request.

  • Saturday, 4/20 - Boys Blue vs. Timberwolves SC (Atkinson) @ 12:45
    • 5 players who need to respond
  • Saturday, 4/20 - Boys Red vs. Milford FC (Milford) @ 5:00
    • 4 players who need to respond
  • Sunday, 4/21 - Girls Red vs. MIlford FC (Cemetery) @ 1:30
    • 6 players who need to respond
  • Sunday, 4/21 - Boys Red vs. Derry SC (Cemetery) @ 4:30
    • ALL players need to respond

Boys Red players, please notice that you have 2 games this weekend.  The notification for the second game is being sent now, so please make sure you respond to both notifications.

I am sending our a second notification to those who have not responded yet, so if you receive a notification today please respond to it, by logging into Teamer and indicating Yes or No to your player attending the indicated game.  Thanks.

If you are having trouble using Teamer and that is why you have not responded, please let me know.  Thanks.

HFC EDP Travel - Teamer MORE INFO

Parents,

A couple of parents have contacted me about not receiving notifications.

One limitation of the Teamer service is that only a single email and phone can be associated with a player.  When I setup the system I used the phone and email provided as contact info for the player when they were registered on GotSoccer.  For parents with multiple email addresses, this means one of the parents will not receive a notification.  Unfortunately, that is a limitation of the service I cannot control.  For those with iPhones, installing the iPhone app will enable you to receive the notifications even if you do not use the specified email.

Hope this eliminates some of the confusion.  I really believe this system will make things easier once we get over the setup hurdle.  Thanks for sticking with it.

HFC EDP Travel - Teamer Notifications sent / iPhone App

Parents,

Everyone should have received a notification for their game at this point.  If the notification is not in your inbox please check your Spam folder (This is where my notifications went first time).  Please let me know if you have any issues.

Second item is that Teamer has a nice iPhone App which makes life easy, especially on game day.  For those of you with iPhones, I would recommend downloading the app.  See the following link for more information.

Thanks everyone and see you at practice this evening.

HFC EDP Travel - Teamer Invitations UPDATE

Parents,

There has been some issues with people not receiving invitations or having deleted invitations because they were for the wrong team.

I will be sending out notifications for our first games this weekend for all teams (Girls Blue's first game is 4/28).  The notifications should have a link and password to register with Teamer.  Please:
  1. Accept the invitation to Teamer using the link and temp password
  2. Validate your player's profile information
  3. Change the phone to your mobile so you can receive text message notifications
  4. Update your player's availability for the game
Let me know if you do not receive a notification or have issues registering with Teamer.  Thanks

HFC EDP Travel - Teamer

Parents, Manager and Coaches:

I have sent up each of the teams on a free service called Teamer.  Teamer allows Coaches and Managers to quickly and easily notify players of games and events and for players to indicate which games and events they will be able to attend.

Each of you should have received an invitation to join Teamer for your team.  Please follow the directions to login and set your own password.  Also please valid the player profile information.  If the telephone number is not your mobile number you might want to change it so you can receive the SMS notifications.

You alll might have received an invitation from Teamer for he Boys Blue team.  I made an error while setting up the Blue team which resulted in all players receiving an invitation.  If you are not on the Blue team you should have received a corrected invitation for your team a little later.

Please let me know if you have any questions or issues.  Thanks.

HFC EDP Travel (U10) Outdoor Practice Begins on Wednesday 4/10

Players,

The sun is out and the snow is gone which means it is time for outdoor practice to begin.  Our first outdoor practice will be on this Wednesday, 4/10, @ 5:30 - 6:45pm on the Upper Wilkin's field.  We will be practicing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the rest of the season.  Practices will occur regardless of the weather.  Practices are only cancelled if the town closes the fields or there is active thunder and lightning.

Because of the current condition of the fields, the town has asked that there are NO CLEATS for the week or so of practices until the fields have completed drying out.

Players should arrive 5-10 minutes early so practice can start promptly at 5:30.  Players should be at practice with:
  • Dressed in practice kit (Blue HFC t-shirt, black shorts)
  • Plenty of water
  • A size 4 soccer ball
  • Shin guards
  • Soccer shoes (no cleats for the first week)
  • A "ready to train" attitude
PARENT MEETING
To kick off our season, we will have a parent meeting after our first practice.  The parent meeting will start at 6:45pm and be about 15 minutes long.  We will introduce the coaches and the team managers, talk about the program and coaching philosophy and the goals for the Spring season.  In addition, we will talk about the expectations for practices and games and the special events this season including the Night at the Revolution and the Memorial day tournament.  This is a great chance for those new to the program to ask question as well.  We strongly encourage every family to attend the meeting, but if you cannot attend for some reason, we will publish meeting notes and will be happy to answer any questions you may have later.

A reminder that the last winter training session will be on Tuesday at the dome at the regular time for those participating.  Thank for your attention and we will see you all on the field on Wednesday.

HFC EDP Travel (u10) Spring Season

Parents and Players:

Welcome to the Spring season.  We hope to start practices next week, assuming the town opens the fields.  Practices will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:30 - 6:45 on Upper Wilkins Field.  We start practice at 5:30 exactly so please have your player arrive a least 5-10 minutes early so they are ready to go when practice starts.  We would like to get 5 or 6 practices in before the first games which will be the weekend of April 20-21.  I will send out an email annoucing the first practice as soon as I receive word the fields are open.

We will be fielding 2 Boys teams and 2 Girls teams this season.  I would like to welcome the 18 new players to the pool who are joining us this season and the 24 returning players from the Fall season.  I am posting the preliminary rosters for the teams below, but the coaches are reserving the right to make same changes, if needed, after our first few practices to keep the teams balanced.  We want to make sure each team has a great season and that can be tough to do when we have not seen many of the players play yet.
