HFC EDPT - Memorial Day Tournament REPORT

Team:

I would like to thank everyone for a great tournament. I was able watch all or part of almost all the games.  I was very happy with the performance of our teams and players.  When I think back 7 weeks to the start of the season I am proud of the difference in skill demonstrated by the players and the play of the teams, but what really stood out for me was how much our players enjoyed playing and playing with each other.   With that love of the game as motivation I know they will continue to improve this season and the next.

I look forward to finishing off the last two weeks of the season. We still have some great soccer to go.

I know there were some great pictures taken this weekend. If people would like to share them with me, I will post them on the team webpage so everyone can enjoy them.  Thanks.

HFC EDPT - Tournament First Day

Team:

Thanks to everyone for braving the weather and to all the players for putting in some great performances today.  I look forward to watching more games tomorrow.

WET CLEATS
If you have wet cleats from running in the wet grass today, the best way to dry them out quickly is to stuff them with crumbled newspaper.  Let sit for an hour or two then replace the newspaper.  Continue until the newspaper is dry when you remove it.  Make sure to push it all the way into the toes on the cleat.

Tomorrow looks to be a little dryer and a little warmer. See you in the morning.

HFC EDPT - Memorial Day Tournament REMINDER

Team:

We have the Memorial Day Tournament this weekend!  This is a great event and a lot of fun for the players.  We have each of our teams entered in the tournament and each team has 4 games.  That is 16 games our players will be involved in this weekend.

It is very important that we know who is going to be at every game this weekend.  I have sent our notifications for each of the 4 games for each team, but some players have not responded, or have not responded to every game.  I resent the notification today to each player who has not responded.  If you receive a notification please update your players status asap.  We have one team who only has 5 players who have accepted for some games.  The coaches can get players if needed, but we need to do it by Friday afternoon.  Once we check in on Friday evening, we are not allowed to change the roster for a team.  That is why it is important to respond and if you accept a game to be there so the team has enough players to compete.  Thanks for you help.

HYDRATION
I would like to take a little time on proper preparation and hydration during games, even though it looks like we are going to have a cool weekend.  Sports science has found that proper hydration is very important to athletic performance.  To get the peak performance, and avoid injury or heat related problems, from an athlete proper hydration is critical.

Good Fluids
  • Water is always good.
  • Sports drinks are good especially for players who do not like to drink water, but most have too much sugar. mix 1/2 with water for best results.
Bad Fluids
  • Avoid milk or any dairy based products (shakes, etc).
  • Energy drinks have way too much caffeine, sugar and other stimulates. When drunk is quantity these can cause medical issues especially for youth athletes.
  • Fruit/Vegetable juices in general have too much sugar/carbohydrates for use during an activity.  Can be used before or after activity in moderation.
Best Practices
  1. Athletes must be hydrated before starting an activity.  They should drink 8-16 ounces of fluid 30 minutes before the start of an activity.
  2. Athletes become dehydrated very quickly during athletic activities there they should drink 2-4 ounces of fluid every 15 minutes during activities
  3. For recovery from athletic activity the body needs fluids (8-16 ounces) immediately (5-15 minutes) after the end of activity.
This means players should drink fluid before practice, have at least 16 ounces of fluid to drink during practice and then another drink once they are done.  Thirst is NOT a good predictor of hydration.  In general, by the time an athlete is thirsty they are already dehydrated.  This is why athletes should be in the habit if drinking before and during activity even if they do not feel thirsty.  The best way to determine if someone is hydrated is by asking 2 simple questions 1) when was the last time you peed? 2) what color was the pee?  A well hydrated athlete will have peed in the last 60 minutes and the pee would have a clear or slightly yellow color.  If your athlete has not peed in the last 60 minutes or the pee was yellow or dark yellow then they are dehydrated.

Thanks and see you all on the field.

HFC U10 - Pepperell Tournament Preliminary Schedule

Teams:

The preliminary schedule for the Pepperell Tournament is available.  This schedule is still subject to change until Oct 5.

We will be playing our normal team rosters for the tournament with the addition of a few guest players.  Mike Erickson will be joining the BU10 Blue team, Miles Lim will be joining the BU10 Red team, and Megan Kirk will be joining the GU10 Red team.

The games are a little shorter than our normal league games with 2 x 20 minute halves and no half time break, just a switch of fields.

The games are scheduled close together, so players should plan on remaining at the tournament site with lots of fluids and light snacks to recover between games.

Please plan on arriving at least 45 minutes before you first game.  Players should wear their red shirts but bring white as well.  Directions and a map of the fields is attached.

HFC U10 - Pepperell Fall Classic Tournament, Columbus Day Weekend (Oct 6-8)

Parents & Players,

I number of you have asked about the schedules for the tournament.  We do not have the schedules yet for the tournament, but they have told us that the girls teams will be playing their 3 games on Saturday and the boys will be playing on Sunday.

Hope this information is helpful.  We will publish the schedule as soon as it is available, but that will most likely be the weekend before the tournament.  You are welcome to check the tournament website yourself for the latest information.  The link for the tournament website is available on the right hand column of the team website ( http://asc-u10.blogspot.com/ ).

Thanks and as always, please me know if you have questions or comments about the program.

HFC U10: Columbus day tournament

Parents,

We are registering our teams for the Columbus Day weekend tournament.  The teams will get 3 game at the tournament.  Last year the girls played on Saturday and the boys on Sunday, but we need to plan on either or even possible both days for games.

All players are expected to participate in the tournament, but because it is a holiday weekend, sometimes families have other commitments.  If for any reason you know your player will not or may not be able to participate, please let me know asap.  This is important so we can adjust the team rosters if needed for the tournament.

You only have to reply if your player will NOT be participating in the tournament.  Thank you.

HFC u10: Thank you for a great Weekend!

Hello ASC/HFC Community,

On behalf of the ASC/HFC Board of Directors, I would like to thank everyone for volunteering this weekend and making this year's tournament a huge success.  We hosted 273 teams this weekend with minimal problems.  We are receiving many compliments on our staff and tournament and what a great time teams had.  This is our club's biggest fund raiser and we could not have done it without all of you.   Thank you to you all!

Congratulations to our BU13, BU15, BU17 and BU19 teams for winning their division and the BU11 team for making it to the semi finals!  Also, congratulations to all ASC/HFC teams for playing well and showing great sportsmanship throughout the weekend.

Don't forget bug spray and sunscreen(?).  My child came home with a tick last year.

ASC u10 Pepperell Columbus Day Tournament Rosters and Schedules

Hi all,

We are getting ready for Pepperell this weekend.  Please find below the rosters and schedules.  These are not the normal rosters as we introduce a few more younger players to the rosters for this event.  So, please be sure to note the team you player will be with, and the times.  Please have your player wear their BLUE shirt to the tourney as not all players have the full uniform.  The tournament website is at: http://www.pepperellsoccer.org/fallclassic

We need forms by Wed at the latest.  Please bring them tonight to practice if you have not turned them in yet.  I will register the teams on Friday and your player CAN'T PLAY without the form.  Also, note that parking can be tough at the tourney so please arrive 45 minutes prior to game time so that we can have 30 minutes with the kids to get them ready both physically and mentally.  Bring soccer ball for warm ups and lots of liquid too!

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
M
