HFC U10 - Year end party - Sunday 12/9 @ 6:00-8:00 at the Hampshire Dome

Team:

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break and is looking forward to Christmas.  I know this soccer is not at the top of peoples list this time of year, but the club is holding an end of year party at the Dome on Sunday.  A great chance to feed the kids and avoid cooking and have them run off some of that Christmas excitement.  We will have soccer fields setup so the players of all ages (including mom and dad) can play.

Please RSVP if you plan on attending so we have enough food and drink for everyone.

Right now I have heard from only 3 families.  Experience from past years tells me we will have many more attending.  Please let me know so we can plan enough food and drink for all.  The club will provide pizza and drinks.  We are asking families to bring a salad (pasta, green, potato, etc) or a desert if possible.

Thanks and hope to see you all at the Dome!

HFC U10: End of Season Survey

Team:

I would like to ask a favor.  We have a short survey which should take 5-10 minutes to complete about the HFC U10 program.  It would be very helpful if you could complete the survey in the next couple of days. Just follow the link to fill put the survey.  All feedback is anonymous, but you are welcome to leave you name in the last comment section if you wish.

The survey is most meaningful if we get full participation, so please respond, especially if you had an issues or were just not excited about the program.   I appreciate your time and thanks for the feedback.

HFC U10 - Fall Season Wrap-up

Parents & Players;

On behalf of all the coaches I would like thank you for an outstanding season.  We coach because we enjoy the game and even more we delight in seeing young players learn to enjoy the game as well.  This was a great season and we were delighted to see the teams progress from barely knowing where to be on the field in the first games to producing shutouts at the end of the season.

I would like to thank all the players for the great work they put into practices and games.  I know you all listened because I could see the results on the field.  I would like to thank all the parents for supporting the program and their players and getting them to the practices and games on time.  I hope everyone enjoyed the season as much as the coaches did.

I look forward to continuing the momentum and growth we have seen during the Fall season during Winter training starting January 8.  Experience has shown that Winter training makes a huge difference in players advancing their skills from year to year.  At just 1:15 per week of time invested, it is easy even for players involved in winter sports programs to include in their schedule.  Winter training has been shown to be the difference between starting next season 3 steps forward or 2 steps back.  As I believe all the players are looking to play soccer again, I strongly encourage everyone to sign-up for Winter training.

While it is a ways off, I hope to see everyone back for the Spring season as well, but for now thanks for a great Fall, enjoy some free weekends and have a Happy Halloween!

Last week of EDP and fun events...please read full message

Hi EDP Families-

Thanks for a great season.  We want to end with some fun events for the kids:
  • Friday we will do an activity in the dark, but don't tell the kids, just be sure to help us connect you with them at the end of practice
  • Saturday is our Halloween party and skills competition for all EDP players, including U10 travel pool.  Be at Cemetery Fields (how fitting) in costume, ready for fun skills competitions and goodies.  Each family should bring something based on the age of your child:
  • 6 and under:  paper cups and napkins
  • 7:  OJ, milk, cider, or box of joe
  • 8: small box of munchkins
  • 9 and up: or some other dessert treat
Coach Molly can't be there so please let her know if you can bring a folding table and tablecloth with an e-mail to dix@rti.org so she can be sure we have tables to put everything.

Coach Josh will need parent volunteers to run the skills stations on Saturday.  Please check in with him and offer to help, he will appreciate it.

Remember to sign up your players for Winter Training on the website at www.amherstsoccerclub.com and to attend our club-wide year-end event at the Hampshire Dome on December 9th from 6-8 PM.

Have fun, and sorry to miss Saturday!

HFC U10 - Indoor Futsal League

Team:

Our season is coming to an end next weekend, but I know that there are some players who cannot get enough soccer.  While the next official club activity is indoor training starting in January, for players who are interested, I am willing to coach an indoor Futsal team during the Nov and Dec.

Futsal is a form of indoor soccer played around the world and is widely recognized for it ability to improve the foot skills of players.  This would be a 9 week season with 8 games and playoffs.  No practices.  It is a purely fun way for players to get touches on the ball.

This would be an addition cost to the club dues.  The exact cost per player would depend on the number of players on the team, but would be in the range of $75-$110.  If you are interested, please reply ASAP.  I am a little late on this and the team registration closed at the end of the week, so I will need a good idea of the number of interested players before Friday.  If you have any questions please email or see me after practice.  I am happy to discuss.  Thanks and see you on the soccer pitch!

More Information about futsal
NH Futsal League - http://www.usyouthfutsal.com/futsalnh/index_E.html

Futsal is the only form of indoor soccer endorsed by FIFA. It earned the status of FIFA's official form of indoor soccer in the 1980s as it was recognized as a scaled down version of outdoor soccer played indoors. It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball sized court with a smaller, heavier low bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries and without walls.

This is the game that outdoor soccer players around the globe play to refine and maintain their control skills and touch. It is superior to walled soccer in terms of developing better skills and technique. In traditional American walled soccer, players regularly whack the ball (and sometimes their bodies) against the boards which promotes improper technique and too often rewards errant play. In futsal, players are constantly reminded to play the same quality control game that is required for success in the outdoor game.

The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking, pin-point passing. The small, heavier futsal ball requires players to hone their ball-striking and ball handling technique. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico, Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka and Katia grew up playing the game and credit futsal with developing their skills.

Welcome to the 2012 Fall ASC/HFC Season!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2012 Fall season.  Soccer has returned to Amherst and what a beautiful weekend we had to host our first games at Cemetery Fields.  Thank you for choosing HFC/ASC as your child's soccer development program.

By now you should have heard from your coaches and hopefully have had that parent meeting where expectations from parents, coach and players have been discussed.  As a board we would like to offer up the following tips to keep in mind while watching your player this season.  Please click here to read the attachment.  /Content/directors/upimg/dir5071/15thingstokeepinmindfromthesidelines.pdf

Many of us on the board were fortunate to be on the sidelines for numerous games, viewing the great soccer showing this weekend at Cemetery fields. We are proud of our players, their efforts and our club's philosophies and want to take a minute to remind everyone who we are and what we stand for. The games are exciting and cheering is fantastic, we just want to do it in the right way so that it benefits the players-isn't that the point?

We are about player development and not winning-The kids are here to play! We think about the players first-treat them with respect! It is a difficult game that takes a lot of physical and mental effort, and both get more difficult as players get tired. Young players are still learning, remember that. Let them make mistakes, it is part of learning.

There is a qualified coach on the other sideline. Let the coach be the coach. First, the kids need to think for themselves, typically by the time a parent yells a direction it is too late anyway. Second, they need to be able to hear their coach. Third, all they need from parents is positive encouragement.
We respect referees, especially when they are young kids learning the job. It is a hard job and they make mistakes. If you disagree with the call your yelling at the ref is not likely to gain you any favors later in the game.

We look forward to another Fall season and we hope you are as excited about the growth of our club as we are.  The feedback on our coaching staff from Southern NH University has been excellent.  The kids enjoyed a great camp with their SNHU coaches and had the opportunity to meet many of the other undergraduate players as well.  We are pleased with our relationship with SNHU and would ask whenever possible to support their program.  Their schedule can be found here:  http://www.snhupenmen.com/sports/msoc/2012-13/schedule

As always feel free to reach out to any of us if you have concerns or questions.  Team specific questions should first be addressed to your team manager and/or coach.  Thanks again for supporting and choosing Hampshire FC/ASC.

HFC U10: Columbus day tournament

Parents,

We are registering our teams for the Columbus Day weekend tournament.  The teams will get 3 game at the tournament.  Last year the girls played on Saturday and the boys on Sunday, but we need to plan on either or even possible both days for games.

All players are expected to participate in the tournament, but because it is a holiday weekend, sometimes families have other commitments.  If for any reason you know your player will not or may not be able to participate, please let me know asap.  This is important so we can adjust the team rosters if needed for the tournament.

You only have to reply if your player will NOT be participating in the tournament.  Thank you.

Welcome to EDP
We are looking forward to having your player with us this season.  Our philosophy is to teach your kids the love of soccer and the skills to be successful at whatever level they choose to play.  Our philosophy translates into our running multiple sessions per week for this age group because we understand that kids this age have many interests and may not be available for every training session.  We use a set curriculum that builds on soccer basics as the season progresses and do encourage players to make as many sessions as possible.  The sessions run exactly one hour and we strongly request that players do not arrive late as it hurts the organization of the group when numbers shift after breaking the kids into groups.  For all players we have 4v4 on selected Saturdays.  Our older, and more experienced U10 pool plays in Granite State as competitive travel teams.  This season our EDP has 2 boys teams, and 2 girls teams, a great foundation for strong future teams.  Our goal is to develop all of our players to be competitive travel soccer players with a long and successful career built on proper technique and understanding.
Calendar

SNHU Game
On Thursday, August 30, 2012 the club will attend the SNHU game against Queens College at 4 PM.  Please respond and indicate if you will be able to attend the game and tailgate, and how many in your family will participate. Janet Dunlap is putting together a list tailgate items to send out to everybody. Please respond to Jan Dunlap at events@amherstsoccerclub.com TODAY!
Columbus Day Tournament
Once again we will be taking teams to Pepperell Mass for Columbus Day.  If your child is in the U10 Pool, please let your team manager know if you can participate (typically boys play on sat or sun, and girls play the other day).  If  your child is 8, and not in the player pool, but you think ready to give 6v6 a try, please let Molly Dix know at dix@rti.org

See you on the 5th at 5:15!
Coach Molly and Josh the rest of the EDP Coaching Staff!
